Question Inherited a 1969 mach1 428 cobra jet and need help establishing value

I was just given a 1969 mach 1 mustang 428 cobra jet as a wedding present from my father. He has had it since he bought it brand new and its been sheltered for most of its life. It has 60,000 original miles. Its a dark green color paint is brand new the car looks like its right off a show room floor, and i was wondering how much its worth? A guy had came into the shop at one point saying he new a great deal about mustangs and was looking at it for a good hour when he said that I had 1 of 11 mach 1's made with a factory "ratcheting rear end." Is this true? and if it is how much is it worth? Thanks a lot guys i hope u know more then i do!

A restored CJ Mach 1 was sold last year for around $50,000. But without photos we really can't help "right off the showroom floor" to you may be very different than what the car looked like right off the showroom floor.

I went to look at a "showroom" original 65 Convertible, that had been painted 5 times, and had Falcon Buckets just sitting in the car (not bolted down).

If I were you I would call:

Jerry Regynski
1300 - 1400 S. Kimball St.
Mitchell, SD 57301
605-996-6550

Depending on what part of WY you are in he might be able to come out for a fee and give you a value. Jerry knows everything about the CJ cars and I am sure he has a few in the Museum. Tell him Michael Satterfield from California Pony Cars sent you. He is a good guy.

You can check the MACH1 Registry, or call Tasca Ford in Cranston R.I.. Ask to speak to Bob Tasca Sr. if anyone knows it would be him. If it were not for him, the MACH1 would not exist. He was the first to put a 428 Cobra Jet in a 1968 Mustang GT Fastback. He's probably the oldest Ford Dealership in the Country, been with Ford for over 50 years and racing for Ford for about the same. It's just been handed down, from generation to generation, Mike. SCT Tuner.P.S. I hope your not thinking of selling it, you have a special car either way. Your father, handed it down to you and he bought it new. I wouldn't sell it, if it was worth a million dollars because it has other value to it. Also you can hand it down to your son, when the day ever comes, Mike.

We have a professional body shop the paint job is as good as any and the product we shoot is ppg, both my dad and his brother have been in business since before i was born and im 26. Its a def beauty inside and out and man does that car run! Ya im leaning toward just having someone come appraise it but with my son on the way and bills i was hoping someone could help on here.

On a car like that spend a little money and get someone to give you a real value you can take to the insurance company. If something happened to the car it would be hard to get the insurance company take a forum response as a hard value of the car.

+1...Have that baby professionally appraised. It's worth while to have an actual document that states the value for insurance purposes. I'd guess at least $40,000 and probably more since it's pretty much an original owner car...

Congrats on the car, wedding, and baby!... You're a very lucky man...

Now all I ask is you please post some pictures of this rare gem...

Pictures are a must, it will help with the "eyeball appraisal" from members. As for it being "1 of 11", spend the money and get a Marti Report, you'll find out for sure what options your car originally came with and how rare it is.

As for value, you know, it really is a VERY old car and probably only worth...oh.....$500 bucks. But I'll give you $1,000 to take it off your hands and save you the trouble of having to store it during those long, cold, snowy Wyoming winters. I'll keep it here in dry South Texas.....lol

If your 69 Mach 1 was built at the Dearborn MI plant, Kevin Marti (Marti Autoworks) likely has the original factory invoice. I got the original invoice for My 69 Mach 1 from Marti a couple years ago. At the very least, for a price, you can get the stats on your Mach 1 from Marti to see just how rare it is. Oh yeah, congratulations on your wedding and your Mach 1!

Since his Dad bought it new, he may already have the original invoice.

Congratulations Brabg11!

Please tell us more about the car and post some photos of it.

What a present! I'm gonna puke if your not a muscle car fan. The 69 Mach is my favorite car and the 428 CJ is the creme de la creme. I recently saw one on E Bay for 85k. You need to kiss that man's feet. Does he have any other daughters? I'll marry two for an original Cobra or GT 40.

The "ratcheting rear end" is probably a Detroit Locker. Not uncommon in muscle cars. If it's a factory optioned Detroit, maybe it's part of a drag pack which may make it rare.

Yes get the Marti report, a deluxe will cost you $40 and is well worth the money. You have a very special dad and he must think the world of you. Cherish that car forever.
