I got a 1967 Straight inline 6, slow as hell but everything except under the hood is f@#en Buitiful its Metalic Midnight Blue I could use some help from any 1 with sudgestions i like the low gas mileage, and i heard the straight inline sixes are becoming a collectors item because of there rarety but i need more speed. Im thinking of getting a 2 barrel edlbrok carb but imnot sure about how much more performance it could posible give me with a 6 banger. If any 1 has some sudgestions on how to pump up a 6 banger plz reply

I have a copy of Mustang Magazine from the early 80's which devoted almost a full issue to getting more power and mpg from inline 6's. It's been a while since I read it, and I am not at home right now to review it, but from memory, here are some highlites.

1. You can use larger valves from a small block V8 (1.84 intake 1.50 exh).

2. You can have the intake machined to accept a 2100 series 2-barrel carb which is a vast improvement over the tiny 1 barrel, or you can have the intake machined at each end to accept another 1 barrel carb, to make yourself a tri-carb setup.

3. The stock bottom end is strong enough to handle any power you wring out the engine, as long as you avoid the 144 six banger that only had 4 main bearings, as opposed to 7 for all the other sixes.

4. Clifford and other companies offer header setups for inlines sixes, so you can run a true dual exhaust.

I don't remember any specific recommendations on the camshaft, but I do know that PAW offers a couple of different "performance" grinds for inline 6's. I bet with a 200 or 250 six and these mods you would be in the 200 horsepower range, no problem! To be honest, after reading and re-reading the magazine, I was actually wishing I had a 6 to rebuild.. LOL.

I have a '65 coupe: New Gt40 crate motor w/ a new 99 5.0 EFI, AOD Tranny, 9" rear w/ Detroit Locker; Shelby GT500 Leaf Springs, twin A-arm suspension, Mustang II front end, A/C, pwr window and door locks, pwr steering, new upholstry and carpet, JME ProComp billit aluminum dash and gages, Cobra 2 Wheels, engine lowered 1" and back 2", and painted Tropic Green. Still get 20 MPG. I am looking for a new crome grille that I can not find anywhere. The one I want is in the Sept Issue of Mustang Monthly on the '66 Nightmist Blue Fastback...any ideas where I can find this grille will be most helpful

Hi Joe,

It's been awhile. Looks like you have made a few changes since we last talked. Did you ever make it to Woodburn?

Next yr I should make it without any probs. Going to be heading up to Kirkland Wa the 21st of October to get the car dyno'd and tuned (hoping for some good #'s). Got a little bit bigger radiator and building a new fuel tank then redoing my fuel lines before I go up. Just want everything the way I want to keep it before driving all that way. Hopefully (crosses fingers) I wont have to spend any more $$ and just enjoy the car. OOPS, need a spool and gears this spring, starting to twist the 28 spine axles. DOH. No slicks for me till that gets done.

Why all the way to Kirkland? A guy by the name of Ralph Friend who owns Xtreme Motorsports in Beaverton OR, now has a chassis Dyno with the O2 sensors. He just welded a bung in the collector for me and away we went.
Finally got the FB into the 9's in Seattle and have since made some other mods. I want it there with no power adders. New Victor's from TEA and a new Super Victor Intake from Wilson Manifolds.
Still tuning the car and now waiting for the MSD Prog. Digital 7. with ICT.

I would love not to have to go all the way up there. Is he good with blown cars running Accel DFI. I really need everything tuned, and I actually have o2 bungs already welded in both sides. Maybe drop me and email if you have his info, I would love not to drive all that extra mileage if he is good.
