Hello looking for your help everyone. I just got a 69 mach 1 scj 428 with the 3.91 drag pack option. The car is indian fire red with white vinyl interior. If anyone can help me find out how rare this car is that would help out a ton. Just want to know how much money i want to put into the car before i start. It is a real r code scj with drag pack and was built at the Metuchen, NJ plant. Here is the door tag numbers if that will help you guys out:

Well, a quick decode of your door tag gives you basically what you already know.

Body: 63C SportsRoof, Mach 1, Deluxe Interior
Color: Y5 Indian Fire Metallic w/Flat Black Hood
Trim: 3W White Vinyl and White Knitted Vinyl, Mach 1 Luxury
Date: 18M December 18, 1968
D.S.O: 28 Louisville

You can contact Kevin Marti of MartiAutoworks to see the exact breakdown of how many were produced. In order to get that report, you will have to get the most expensive report, but it is well worth it and completely accurate.

A drag package car is as rare as a Shelby.Does it have a oil cooler on it ?

Yes it has the oil cooler on the front on the drivers side and has the horns mounted on the passage side to make it a drag pack car. I know for a fact it is a 428scj with the 3.91 drag pack. it also has white interior. Just trying to find out how rare this car is so i can decide what to do when i get done restoring it. For something kind of rare like that, I'd sure go get the Marti Report. I just upgraded from the standard version to the elite one that really breaks it down. My '69' SCJ Cobra was the only one made with all the options (or lack of) on the car. Come with the window sticker for you car also. Got them scanned in somewhere.

The drag package alone is rare but the factory oil cooler was a option not everyone of them had it.It's kinda odd to me the car was sold here new wonder which ford dealer sold it?

Order that report as soon as possible, think mine took a couple of months. Even the $40 version tells the selling dealer but the revised one lists a different dealer. Think that any SCJ after Feb '69' and ordered with the 3.91/4.30 gears automatically got the "Drag-Pak" which at that time did include the oil cooler. Lots of questions of options before that time, who got what and such. Look on that report I sent you and that's why there is that note on the date.

i now this is a older trend, but i know 69' was the first year they started adding oil coolers, and like you said they added them to drivers side, so they moved the horn to the passengers side also there was concerns about the durability of the scj so the engineer team beefed up the crank, pistons, rods and so on. those were either q-code or r-code engines, you sir are lucky the car you own is my dream car

Yep old thread but from what I found today, looks like less than 100 '69' Mustangs came with the 428 SCJ and manual trans. My report shows the drag pak cost $155 and the ram air engine was $133.54.
