Default Mexico Record Number & Destroy Tag.....Diamond Shaped Tag....???!!!

So I was cleaning out my stang today and noticed a very small diamond shaped tag that says

"Mexico Record Number & Destroy Tag FA****"

I have no idea what it is, but I did a little research and found this article on an old maverick forum website.

Diamond-shaped tag on original keys. - Ford Maverick / Mercury Comet Forums

Basically says that it is the ignition key cuts for the car. I will try to upload a picture of it tomorrow when I get time. Does anyone know if this is true or not, or any other information about this mysterious tag??

Lots of aftermarket keys have this diamond shape piece, i know mine did when i got new ones. My guess would be that it is an aftermarket tag from when someone got new keys made. Its just a reference incase you lose your key so they can cut a new one easily.

Just got off the phone with a mustang history buff in town and he confirms that it is a key cut code. He said that FA does stand for the ignition key and that if I wanted to get another set over at an Ace Hardware or something, they have key code books and the number should be in there.

Very cool stuff little facts to learn, I love these cars!
