Hello,
I do not have a data code plate on my door and was hoping someone could help me identify (or come close to) the build date and DSO from my VIN#. If possible, I sure could use your help. The running numbers at the end of my VIN are 655325. I bought the car with the intention of keeping and to show and would like to get as much history as possible. The previous owner was of no help. Any help would be most appreciated.
The inside front left fender is where the VIN# is located. There is not another set of numbers stamped beneath. Yes, it is a Dearborn car. However, the assembly plant and DSO are not the same or are they?
Hello.Without a door tag, or some sort of documentation like a build sheet, there isn't any way to know the D.S.O. of the car.Your Scheduled build date is probably 4/08/65.Hope that helps.

you orrigionally mentioned the door tag, not the legal vin
Thanks to all who responded.
After additional research with a local Mustang expert, he was able to determine a build date.
Monday, March 8th 1965, conidered a mid year model. I just need to do a bit more digging to find whether the DSO was Lansing or Detroit since its a Michigan car. I'm getting her ready for the 40th Birthday bash at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn on Friday, August 20th.
Hi again.Marti doesn't have records on the 65/66 cars.Ford destroyed them a long time ago.On the early cars what you can deduce from the car itself and whatever documentation it still has with it is pretty much all that there is.Hope that helps.
Veronica,
I appreciate your input. 'm not sure though, where you are getting the "I" from, in determining the vehicle's build month. The person who did the research for me, looked up my VIN in a book published with other VIN #s that also have established build dates from their owner's records. My VIN # falls within 200 of March 6th and March 8th of 1965. He felt the numbers used for comparison brought my build date closer to the 8th of March rather than the 6th.
Hi again. 5F07K653967 had a build date of april 6 and 5F09K658944 had a build date of april 10.That would put yours at about april 8th.The build date month is given in most registries as a letter. In your case, the letter is 'Q'.Ford did not use the letter 'I' for september.September is J.Your friend must have overlooked that since if sept.was actually I,then that would make Q be march.Q is april.Hope that helps.
Hey along those same lines, my fastback has the center "off" blower switch and originally came with a vinyl covering on the inner frame rail rather than carpeting. Any idea when they changed this? As I understand the 65 cars came with carpeting up the inner frame rails and a side "off" switch. I'm thinking the car was made around October of 64. I don't have the VIN with me at this time. Thanks

Hi again. It isn't really that strange to see cars with build dates as late as november of 64 with many '64 1/2' features.Ford wasn't going to throw parts away. They put the stuff on cars until they ran out. There was a K code fastback in mustang monthly a while back that had a build date in oct. that was a 5 bolt, generator car with the 64 1/2 radiator core support, horns, hood, beveled head light doors, all of the stuff that is 64 1/2.
Facinating! Thanks! What was the difference in the radiator support?
The 64 1/2 radiator core supports look like this.I don't know if you can tell or not from these, but there are also no holes for mounting the horns since they are down on top of the strut rod bracketsThe pictures are very washed out intentionally so that you can see the 'gills' more clearly.
