Default Dash panel work on '68

Hello all. I'm now the proud owner of a '68 coupe, all original, with a 289-2barrel. Car runs great after a carb rebuild, so now I'm doing some detailing on the dash. Here is my first problem. The 'high quality' plastic panels that make up the dash have woodgrain decals on them and they need replacing. Right now, I'm pulling the old decals off with my fingers. I've tried a razor blade, but my unsteady hands are slicing away the original brown color on the plastic panels. Does anyone have suggestions as to a better way to take off the old decals without scratching the plastics up too much? Also, I've broken a few of the plastic mounting studs on the back of the panels (didn't know they were plastic with a thin metal nut) while taking them out of the dash. These plastic panels are chrome color trim around the decals too. Would it be better to just replace the plastic panels instead of doing all this work? I'm still researching the cost of them, but I haven't made up my mind what to do. Thanks for any suggestions. See ya'll.

Hello.Congratulations on making it home incident free. You just never know with a 35 year old car that you've never seen before in your life. Those panels are so inexpensive people just replace them most of the time. The three piece kit goes for about 50 bucks brand new for the deluxe(wood-grain),a little less for the standard black camera-case.When you consider your time as being worth something and the way 'fixed' looks when compared to replaced with brand new, that is the way to go.You'll need to save the speed nuts on the back of the pld pieces. The new ones don't include those. If you don't have a local vendor, you could try here www.mustangmania.com They ship anywhere and also have an 800 number so that you can talk to a knowledgeable actual person instead of just ordering something on the computer. They also have a good assortment of good used parts for your car if you need anything later on that isn't reproduced. And no,I don't work there. They don't give me a dime to say that stuff.Just a very satisfied customer.Good luck.

Thanks for the website, V. Looks like they have some things I need. I'll have to call them soon because I don't know if the 3 piece kit is woodgrained or if I have to apply the decals to it. And I have the deluxe mustang emblem on it. Lol. I've already ordered a bunch of stuff. Thanks again.
