Default Woodgrain dash panel inserts

okay gang, here's a good one. my '68 dash is the deluxe version with the woodgrain dash panel inserts that stick to the chrome plastic panels. now i've had two sets of these panel inserts from two different places, and so far, both of those kits have poorly cut inserts. i refuse to slap those on the panels, allowing too much chrome color to show through. i've tried finding a laminate material that's close to the stuff i have now so that i can cut it myself, and pay attention to detail. i've also thought about painting the chrome plastic under the inserts brown, to offset the gaps in the inserts. i can't believe that these woodgrain 'stickers' are causing such a hassle. oh, and both sets of inserts are different grainage and combining them looks terrible. anyone out there have any suggestions or advice? i want to get my dash put back together before winter sets in around here. thanks alot.

I think you can buy a dash that already has a woodgrain finish. I also have a 68 Mustang Deluxe, and I had the origional wood grain dash. Im going to buy a new one as soon as i can, but right now I just have a standard dash that I spray painted black. Look at the National Parts Depo Mustang Magazine.

hey, thanks for that info. unfortunately it's too late, since i've purchased all new chromed dash panels and bezels. i really don't want to paint them, so i'm going to keep trying to make the inserts work. it's going to be a long winter anyway. thanks again.
