I think the 5-speed retro mod is about the best thing going if you enjoy driving your classisc '
stang much at all. I have it in my '70 Mach 1 w/351C-4V. It was there when I bought it and it was actually the thing that most intrested me in this particular car when I was looking to buy another '70, I had previously owned two others over the years and one had a 428SCJ with 4.30 gears. Nearly 4,000 rpms at 70 mph along with 8 to 10 mpg on the highway was a little excessive even back in the 70's when I had it.
Mine is a T-5 from a '94 Mustang and get's me 24 to 26 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. There is a lot of info out there on this swap and many Mustang parts places have complete kits to do the conversion with minimum problems. I highly recommend this mod, although I lack the mechinical expertise personally, I'd gladly pay to have it done ifI was looking again today. I've seen it done on 289/302/351/428 and 460-powered Mustangs. :thumbsup
