Cool Need Advice on My First Mustang

I'm finally going to get my Mustang after many years of wanting but not getting. I'm not interested in anything newer than 1970. It has to be a fastback or convertable. I'm looking at the '69 or '70 Mach 1 prefer 428 CJ or any of the Boss' or getting a basic fastback and doing the preformance mod's myself(or maybe even bying one already done). I want true USA Ford V8 power, and lots of it. If I got the Mach or Boss it would have to be all origanial and I would not change a thing. If I built the car myself, the only thing I would rule out would be a turbocharger. I would be open to nitrus or surpercharging. Regardles which direction I go the car must be a real show stopper but not so perfect it can't be driven. What's your opinion(s)?

Thanks

I say go for it!!! Here’s where I got mine a while back:

http://www.oswaltsmustangs.com/index.htm

He seems to have a good eye for 69/70 models and usually has a few in his show room. Let him know what your looking for, he’s always on the lookout for classic Mustangs. I’ve run into him at several shows since then and we always have nice conversations about Mustangs. Mine had great paint and a newly rebuilt 351C-4V. What attracted me to my particular car was it looks totally stock but has a few retro-mods like a 5-speed and rack & pinion steering. Since buying it, I’ve done lots of little thinks like replacing chrome and trim pieces as well as updating the suspension with gas shocks, bigger sway bars, and new springs. I had a new 1970 Mustang back in 1970 and now I’m trying to make my 1970 Mach 1 as new as that one was only more modern by today’s standards.

Sounds like your ready to drop some fairly big dollars. Shop long and hard. Do not get in a hurry to buy one. There are some very honest people in this hobby and then there are others. If you know mustangs well you will know weakness they have like cowel leaks, troque box rust rear quarter rust just to name a few. If you are not super familiar get a book or to on restoring and buying old mustang read up it will save you from buying a pig. Mkae sure all numbers match if its a high cost rare car. Also get some help from friend that are familiar with these old stangs to help you look. I am not talking down to you so please don't take it this way. But in the rush that comes over all of us when we have been waiting for something mistakes and oversights can be made and a second head can be invaluable. Good luck and I hope you find the car of your dreams. Sharps-Nut

Hello.I'm assuming that you have done your homework and understand that a nice 428 Mach or Boss 302 is going to be up near the 50K range. You might want to invest in some books, talk to people that are expert in the nuances of these cars and have someone with you when you go to look at cars.Learn everything that you can about them and find someone that has been specializing in these cars for years that you can trust to look the car over for you.You probably ought to buy the car from a reputable dealer instead of some random guy with an ad in Hemmings or ,even shakier,a car on Ebay.Hope that helps.
