The wiring diagram shows the pink wire from the ignition switch at some point change to a red with a green stripe and that goes to the coil. Is there a fusible link that may have gone out? I also tried to jumper from the battery to the coil directly and have power to the points but no spark. The motor turns over and the points are gapped correctly and are opening and closing. I am baffled. The car ran fine when I put it out to pasture so to speak and had no wiring problems but I would be grumpy if I sat out there for 16 years too. This is my high school ride I am trying to resurect. |
Dude, you're in for a world of trouble.
You may as well have the car overhauled, as all your hoses, gaskets, etc, are probably dried out, and your charging system probably has a lot of contact issues due to corrosion.
You're gonna' haveta start with the starter solenoid and work your way through the ignition, cleaning all the contacts, and replacing wires.
Always run the car at least once every two months to keep it in running condition. It's even MORE crucial for the older cars, as the tolerances and materials aren't up to modern standards.
