Hi everyone,

I was wondering if i can ask some advice, i am just starting in my quest to own a 1965 convertible mustang.
Is there anything i should look for, good and bad when shopping around?
What, in you opinion are the best features to look for?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Rust or repaired hidden rust, in floors, rocker panels, frame rails, trunk floor, torque boxes, wheel houses, bottoms of door, everywhere. Rust is the major problem with Mustangs, and verts are worse due to water leaks over the years. Get the car to a shop and put up on a lift. Be carefull of freshly undercoated cars. Most thimes it's hiding rust. Look for bondo in rocker panels doors and 1/4 panels. If they won't let you take it to a shop then they must be hiding something.

Follow 70 mach's advice to the letter. I would also add get a book over mustang especially restoring and buying used mustangs. They will give you lots of details on the information that 70 provided you with. A fellow mustang enthusiast is a good sourceand buying advisor as long as your not looking at buying there car. Convertibles are very prone to rust and some of it is very expensive to fix. A rust free southern car would be very desirable, but even then then need a close inspection. Any one selling a mustang that is suposed to be restored will not have any problem with going with you to a shop and having their car gone over. Just do not get in a hurry to buy as that makes you an easy target for the crooks in the trade. If you decide to buy a unrestored car make sure you cover every possible thing that could need replaced so you don't end up with a money pit. Steve
