Question any recommended San Diego mechanics?

Any San Diego area people have a recommendation for someone to inspect/evaluate a 68 'vert? I may try to take a look at a car this week, and if it passes my basic knowledge I would like someone who really knows something to take a look before I go forward on it.

Johns Mustangs, Mustang Shoppe, other?

I'm a transplant from a few thousand miles away, so I don't know the local businesses at all. Thanks for any suggestions!

The Mustang Shoppe has been helpful when answering any of my techinical questions when needed, have not had any work done by them yet though. I go to John's Mustang mostly. See if one of them could go over the car for you, they have continuously given me the best advice, and the couple of things they have done for my car have been perfect. You could try Mustangs Only out in El Cajon, ask for Chris, (I don't know anyone else there), I would trust him just as much as the folks out at John's. Good luck.

Not sure if you have already chosen on the mustang shoppe, but if not, try another place. DPR was the best, but there are still a few good ones. My friend recommended the mustang shoppe and I went there once. They said my transmission was dead and the fluid had metal in it. I said ok, but I could not pay for it at that time, they said ok, and I left. I decided to get a second opinion the next day from a transmission shop. The trans was in good shape, all the plugs were in place and tight, but there was not a drop of fluid in the tranny. They let me leave without telling me the tranny fluid was drained and not replaced. They also have some pretty outrageous prices and I have heard some stories from a past employee of theirs about how they would scam customers out of their car. Be careful... Choose another shop, there are one or two that specialize in classics and mustangs.
