So Iinstalled a new head light switch and wire harness on my 66 gt coupe. The parking lights work w/ the switch in the park light position but turn off when the head lights go on...... Is this normal ???
They never were on at the same time until some bureaucrat around 1980(?) decided to make it mandatory as a safety feature. That way, if a headlight burns out there will still be a visible side marker light (also not a parking function) to see so that your car is not mistaken for a oncoming motorcycle.
I think its kinda cool that they are the way they are...stand out from the crowd. I had a '54 Chevy Panel truck (i know you all know by now) but it was made with only 1 rear brake light. It was mounted on the rear left door. (knee level or little higher) It also had 2 parking lights mounted up at chest level (so total 3 parking lights in rear but only the lower one used as a brake light Used to get pulled over in high school because of it.

Thanks everyone for your response . Now all I need to figure out is why the rear brake lights go on with the headlights and both tail lights flash with the turn signal ???
