Default roof rail weatherstrip and rear bumper guard...questoins

ok first off i'm going to change my old roof rail weatherstrips with new ones but i'm not sure if i should be aware of anything before i do since i have never done this before...so can anyone give me a some advice before i change them out, what should i do first..etc..etc?

And to my second question i'm replacing my old rear bumper guards with some that i bought from CJ Pony parts but i was looking at my old ones that are on my car now and seen that the old one have a rubber pad that protects the bumper guard from the valance........well my new ones do not have the rubber pad and not sure if i should install them without the pading since i do not want to chip my paint on the valance.........well my question is does anyone know where i can get that rubber pading from? i asked CJ pony parts when i ordered the guards and they said they my 66 didn't come with rubber pads....any ideas before installing my guard and messing up my paint...............JOSE
