Question 1966 or 1969 Coupe Mustang

Looking at both the 66 and 69 coupe for our first build. We find alot of 66 but not alot of 69. Is there a lack of 1969's or is it very common and not much interest in the 69?

1966 has 289 V8 auto, good body $7700.00
1969 has V6, some rust on the rear fenders. $3450.00

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, I'd pick the one I wanted more. Parts are readily available for both cars. If it were me, I'd go with the '69 because I already have a '65 and a '73 and it would be different.

But the '66 would be probably a more problem free build since you indicated it was in better shape. But there are always secrets hidden that first time Mustangers are unaware of until it's too late. Leaky cowls and frame rails will haunt you unless you know how to spot 'em.

'69 coupes are not in real demand yet because the fastbacks are worth so much more. But give them a little time, then everyone will want 'em.

I'd like one now!

restoration parts are cheaper for 66 and wider range

Thanks for the replies, The 66 is in good shape no rust and straight with new interior.(289 auto v8)
I like the looks of the 69 but it does have the rust spots in the rear fenders and trunk area and the interior needs work, It looks as if a restoration was started and not finished the work stopped just behind the doors but the car is straight.(with a straight 6 auto atm).
Always wanted a 60's model mustang and just not sure which road to take.

We have a 92, 96 and an 05 mustang atm and looking for a good classic hobby car for the 4rth.

Thanks Firstbuild.

i personaly like both the '66 and the '69 models....i guess thats why i have 3-'66 and 2-'69
but i find it easier to to find more '66 parts than '69 parts.

Go with want your heart wants, so you'll have no regreats later. I was in a similar position as you are and I went with my heart and gut feeling, now I have a solid ride and the feeling of pride and accomplishment. However, based on your situation the '66 sounds like a better deal and will be a better investment once it's restored or restomod(ed) since it has a 289, V-8's always have better value over the 6 cyl. Good luck!

I agree with everyone else. '66 parts are MUCH easier to come by and cheaper. As for value, you'd think the 69 coupe would be worth more because they're hard to find, unfortunately, noone 'wants' them (or this seems to be the general attitude I come across). Go figure. Good luck and have fun! I'm just finishing the restoration of my 66 coupe - long, hard road, but definitely WORTH IT!!

the 66 is blessed with more parts..the 69 isn't all that great for a resto-mod.......thats why you see more 66's........BUT go to a show, you'll see more& more 69s.they are starting to catch on.with the 69 you'll have a wide choice of motors, since the 69 had the most engine choices of any mustang.
