Default Advise Needed on Buying 1966 Convertible with 97k for $17,500.

I just saw a thread and reply to a question about a '66. I've seen one advertised in Virginia with 97k miles for $17,500. The car looks in great shape-- from the photos. Original paint, undercarriage clean, top in good shape, etc. Is this at all a reasonable price?

Am new to the whole 'Stang thing. But this two-tone, maroon-and-tan car looks like a beaut. Kind of long standing dream...

Would appreciate any and all pieces of advice. Esp. about the engine: what's the no. 1 question I need to ask about this vehicle?

Welcome to the site... Have you seen the vehicle in person? You need to inquire about the engine and transmission. Original? Rebuilt? If rebuilt, how many miles on it? If it's truly cherry, $17k is not bad.

Welcome to teh site. TO answer your question, I think you need to see the car in person first. If it is truely original and in great shape I would say that price is not too far out of line.

If the motor or any other components have been rebuilr ot replaced, I would ask to get some receipts so you knwo who did the work.

$17k is not exactly pocket change! Check the car out IN PERSON, preferably with someone who knows old Mustangs well. Lots of ways to get hurt when buying an old car. If you don't know anyone to check it out, get in touch with some local Mustang clubs, they'll help you out.
Good Luck.
