Mustang Jackpot?

Hi, I'm a new member to these forums. I've never really had much of an interest in domestics but have always loved the Classic American Muscle. Recently, I was driving around in a somewhat abandoned parking lot and stumbled across a Mustang graveyard. There where two Stangs outside the fence and there where ten or more on the inside. All classics. The two outside where for sale, one was extremely rusted but another was not two bad. "They"(there was nobody around) were offering $998 for the good conditioned one. I think that the good one was a 1970 and the pockmarked rust one was a 1964 or something. Some of the Stangs in the inside looked pretty nice. The place where the stangs where in seemed abandoned but there was a number I could call. I have no idea what to look for in these classics cars and don't want to get scammed. What do I do next regarding purchasing and contacting these people? What should I expect to find on the car to know it's authentic? I stricken with the Mustang fever now, and want to get one before anyone else can get there grubby little fingers on them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to AFM.
The most important thing you want out of them, is a clear title. Then, you want to make sure that there's no catastrophic rust, or damage. If you're really considering one of those cars, (or any older Stang) you might try hooking up with someone who really knows older Stangs, and have them inspect it for you. Contact your local Mustang clubs to find expert advice.

Pick up a copy of "Mustang Restoration Handbook" by Don Taylor & Tom Wilson it is published by HP Books. Most book stores like Barnes & Noble, Books a Million have them in stock on their shelves also Mustang resto parts vendors have it. There is a section in the book that shows you where to look for rust and other problems when considering a purchase. Also how to ID the different models. This book covers a full resto of the vintage Mustang and costs less than 20 bucks. Good luck in finding what you want a don't get into a hurry and buy a car that will be way too far gone and will make you lose interest in your project. Remember they made hundreds of thousands of these cars. ___Chuck

Default Mustang Jackpot?

Alright, thanks guys. When you say clear title, you mean make sure it's not stolen or something like that right. Could I use the VIN number and look it up. And I think that I know a guy who is really into classic stangs. He owns a really nice onw. I will also try talking to him. Thanks alot.

Yep, make sure it's not stolen and the person selling the car is the actual owner.

Do you have titles in Minnesota for cars that old? Some states don't issue titles with older vehicles, CT is one of them and I have no title for my 68, as they require a bill of sale only. If I had a title from another state or from a previous owner from years ago they would take the title from me when registering the vehicle.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.
