Default Just bought 1965 Mustang Fastback in black with a 390 big block.

The guy claims is atleast 375 HP could this be true? I'm calling him up today to be more specific on the engine. On ebay he says its a 375 HP engine. Let me know if it was worth it for 25k

For 25k i think you should have some solid info like numbers matching, and info from the history of the car. But thats just my opinion, i think if you really want it then go for it. Keep us posted

I wonder how well of a job they did modifying that car to fit the 390 since they (65-66) were never designed for a big block.

That's the hard part without having someone who knows what to look for. I still didn't recieve anything today but I expect to have something by tomorrow. I thought it was not a hard thign to throw in a 390 into the bay of a 65

It's hard b/c it has a smaller engine compartment? It's not impossible I take it? Still waiting onthe paper work to show who did the engine mounting and what exactly type of engine it was. There's not many 65 or 66's with a 390?

Hello. To answer your question about how many, Ford did not put 390s in Mustangs in 66. That option wasn't available until 67. From looking at that one blurry picture of the motor, I'ld have to say that it looks like a 351 Cleveland to me. The reason that Ford didn't put them in 66 mustangs was because it won't fit. It's not a tight squeeze, it just plain won't fit. The upper radiator hose appears to be going straight down to the front of the block in the picture. That's what you would see on a 351 Cleveland. A 390 has the upper radiator hose coming into the thermostat housing on the intake at an angle.Yup, if I was given to placing bets, I would put my money on that being a 351 Cleveland. But it could just be a really bad picture making it look funny.Good luck.

That auction is now over with. You didn't win it and are now looking for an inspection and test drive of it before deciding on it? The auction clearly states "This car is being sold as is, nothing else implied or promised". Normally you inspect, or get it inspected, before bidding and winning it. You're looking at breaching your end of the contract if you're not sure you want this car now before finding out if the seller has breached his end by claiming the wrong motor.

Listen smarty pants. I am getting it. Now if this car does not have the engine or anything else that he stated then it will be a breach of contract as well. I do want this car and I like to verify what it really has , since you didn't read the posts above that a few stated it's almost impossible to throw a 390 engine in the bay and another stated the shock towers are factory, that makes me wonder if this car has what its stated. Think before you respond b/c he would be in breach if he does not have what he stated this car to have. Read all the post above. The inspection I want is just to verify what he claims which is the engine, tranny, no rust and no bondo work.
