By far, the most useful book to use as a restoration guide is the appropriate year model shop manual. The MCA judging rules book is a good one. The book mentioned by the Greek is very good for part numbers. It has a whole bunch of application charts to tell you what part your particular car should have as far as which carb, radiator, etc... It doesn't have any actual 'how to' in it though. If, by restoration, you mean to return the car to 'as original', except have everything work and fit well( they didn't do all of that brand new) then going to shows and asking questions of people that probably know what they are talking about is very helpful.
