Default 1965 Mustang Wiring Harness Part Number ID?

I have a small harness, attached to an old '65 underdash harness; part number: C4ZB12638A. How can I find out what it is and if an after market part is available?

Hello. I've been poking around for a couple of days on this one and I've come up with nothing. If you could post a picture of the harness and say where it was hooked to the underdash harness, I pretty sure that I would recognize it.

It connects to the underdash harness at the 6-pin firewall plug, with two bullet connectors.

The harness also terminates at two other ends:
One end has two, two-plug connectors
The other end has two more bullet connectors.
Looks like all Red/blue wires.

I'll work of a picture...

Thanks,
Gary

Hi again. Sounds like the neutral safety switch harness. Does it have a round rubber thingy about a foot away from the end with the two two-prong connectors that'a about a half inch in diameter? Also, one of the connectors should be red.If yes, that's the neutral safety switch harness and yes, it's available.

That sounds like it. I assume since those two ends are connected together, the safety switch is either diabled, or not persent on the car.
Any idea what is involved in making this right?

Thanks for the detective work,
Gary

Hi again. What it would take to make it right would be kind of hard to say without having the car here, but, I would start with the assumption that that the neutral safety switch was bad and needed to be replaced. It sounds as if someone just bypassed it rather than replaced it somewhere down the line. Replacing it isn't a big deal at all. It has two bolts holding it to the side of transmission and you have to disconnect the shifter linkage and kick-down linkage from the transmission, which again, is nothing. If you are going back with all new stuff under the dash, that should eliminate all of the other electrical weirdness that folks have done to the car. If your car has reverse lights, the wiring for that also goes through the neutral safety switch. All in all, it shouldn't be a problem to get everything back to right, but, you never know.

Hey,
The car doesn't have a neutral safety switch mounted, or have backup lights. The new '65 harness has the two bullet connectors, which is where this switch harness connects, plugged together. Is that an effective way to bypass the safety switch?

Hi again. We're back on that 'to say anything for certain, I would need to actually see the car' thing, but, IF the wiring that we are talking about is in fact the neutral safety switch, then hooking the two wires together will effectively bypass the switch. It just looks like two wires. It is actually the same wire, one being power in and the other being the continuation of that wire as power out. The thing is, if you do that, you don't have a neutral safety switch, making it possible for the car to be started while it is in gear. The switch is cheap, something in the 25 dollar range, and is a very simple install. It would be a very good idea to go ahead and get a new switch. As a general rule of thumb, I try to have everything which has the word 'safety' in its name function correctly. Good luck.

Good point on the safety.

Since I'm early in this rewiring, and I already have numerous questions (posts), it seems entirely possible that there will be more... What does it take to attach a picture, so I can assist, in your assisting me?

A picture truly is worth a thousand words. When posting a response, if you'll scroll down a little ways past where it says 'submit reply' 'preview post' you'll see a button that says 'manage attachments'. Click on that and it will pull up a page that has a whole bunch of buttons that say 'browse'. Just click on one of those and you will be able to upload pictures that are saved on your computer.Hope that helps.

Yup, just like that. One thing that you can be sure of is that if it has something to do with computers, and I can do it, it is exceedingly simple. My husband says that it's because I am borderline retarded when it comes to computers, but I think that it's because computers are evil and they all hate me. That's why they won't do what I tell them to.

Have to agree with the evil part... Maybe we need a forum for the cyber challenged as well.

4:48 here; must be pretty early in TX

Be aware; now that I can support my questions with pictures, I'll have more of both... Underdash harness goes in on Sat. Any recommedations on test firing stages, as these harnesses go in?
