My friends dad has a mustang cobra svt and it is just insane, huge supercharger and all this stuff. It goes to 160mph. I love the old classic mustangs and was wondering if I could make one as fast as my friends. If so how much(general) would this cost? Would it be better to just buy a newer stang and trick that out??? I'm a real newb when it comes to american cars so if you could help me out that would be great. Thanks.
Either way u are looking at a lot of money. If u go classic u can spend as much or more than the cobra just for a good body car depending on the condition u are looking for. But u can find a 2003-2004 cobra from 24-28K depending on mods and miles. It is all up to u to do the #'s and what u can afford. I will say the older ones don't handle or stop even close to the new ones also so more money to upgrade. U would probably have to spend 20K at least to get even close to the 03-04 cobras overall performance on a classic mustang.
1992 Deep Emerald Green Mustang GT Hatch, 5 speed, 2.73s, Mac fenderwell cold air intake, '93 Cobra MAF, Mac 70mm throttle body & spacer, Explorer intakes, Mac unequal headers & offroad pipe, Magnaflow catback, Walbro 110lph fuel pump, Jet adjustable FPR, MSD Blaster coil, Accel 8mm wires, FRPP aluminum quadrant, UPR firewall adjuster, stock cable, Granatelli upper control arms.
Waiting to go on: Granatelli lower control arms, and GT40 Iron heads!
A classic mustang can't be touched. It retains its value and a classic style that can't be recreated even with the modern mustangs. You could have a cobra and a fastback for the same money and atleast you know the fastback won't lose its value and it attracts every eye more than a 2003 cobra would.
The old one will be easier and cheaper. No computers or emissions to have to worry about.

Good point boss plus look at the pics. WHICH ONE LOOKS SEXIER?
No doubt the older one looks tons better. Its gonna sound better too. You dont need to do 170, we dont have an Autobahn here. Most races are only going to go to about 110 or so if youre going from a stop.

I dunno, I think a 4.6 Mod motor, even a tame one, sounds better than any Windsor.

I dont want to get this thread off topic, but I would like to see what a 4.6 could do with some ported PI heads from Fordracingparts.com and some bigger cams and a good, port matched intake. I think they really have alot of potential. Id still take the old muscle though.
