Transplant Cobra Drivetrain into '65 - '66? Hi Folks - I have a 434 cid 351W, Richmond 5 speed and Jag rear carrier / suspension assy that survived the crash of my ERA Cobra (there went 10 years of hard work!). I'm considering the viability of transplanting the drivetrain into an early Mustang to make a 'hotrod'.
The engine has aluminum TFS heads, and a Victor Jr. intake, and produced 550 hp and 550 ft-lbs on the dyno. I realize that significant custom work will be required to install the Jag rear, but like the idea of IRS and how unique the resulting car would be.
I'm considering starting with an incomplete or already modified car, rather than cut up a car that has value as a collectible. I prefer the styling of the '65-'66 slightly over the later Mustangs.
What I've been able to gather from reading this site is that transplanting the big block '67-'70 shock towers would be good idea for header clearance and tower strength.
Are motor / transmission mounts available? Anyone know the distance between the engine crankshaft C/L and the hood of the '65-'66? Was there any more room in the '67-'68?
Any other thoughts / suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
Bob S.
