Default What would you pay for this '65 Fastback ?

Hi Guys, I have an opportunity to buy a '65 Fastback but not sure if the car is worth the $12K he wants for it. Make it $13K considering the $800 for the shipping from OK to CA. All advice is welcomed PLEASE.
It's a conversion from the original inline 6 manual to a 302 auto. bored 30 over. New Edelbrock intake, new brakes, new leather seats front and rear come with the car. Needs headliner, paint etc.. Only surface rust on the exterior. Please look at the pics and let me know if this is a good deal and what you yourself would offer for the car. Your knowledge is appreciated ! Steve

Personally I wouldn't pay over 9K for it. Especially with it being a V8 conversion. It needs some work and some crap taken off of it, like all the aftermarket gauges and stuff. But I'm an original equipment guy myself.

I paid $1500 for mine and it was a V8 from the factory. But then again, that was in 1989.

But if someone paid 12-13K for it, I wouldn't be critical.

Hello, the biggest factor to me is the rust. Did you recieve detailed pics of the underbody??m front and rearsuspension?? framerails?? Don't take the word of someone, see for yourself. you can have it inspected by a 3rd party for 100-300 dollars, a mere pittance if she turns out to be a rustbucket. If you are buying the car based on the pics you postd here, I'd say you are taking a big chance. This is just my opinion, I'm very skeptical and careful by nature, good luck, Lenny

The conversion part is what bothers me most. Takes away from the originality. BTW the original color was "ivy green". UGH. I agree about A/M gauges, steering wheel etc..Those would have to go. I would like to have some value left once it was finished. $1,500 for a F/B days are gone I'm afraid. Thanks for your input. It's appreciated !

12K for any FB ain't to bad...check the cowl vent area and the floorpans if they are solid the car is worth the money but if he is asking 12 offer him a bit less. According the NADA a 6 cyl FB is worth anywhere from 9 to 32K so 12 is reasonable if it is solid even if it is a conversion. FB's are getting hard to find and folks don't look down on 6 to 8 conversions it's a good way to get the car you want unless you're wanting to do an original restoration it's not going to matter as long as it was done right.

Went back and took a good look at the photo's see if he will come down there are some things that will hurt value a bit...aftermarket radio means there is a hole in the dash and the interior looks a bit rough but that may just be the dirt and dust. offer him about 10 and see what happens you can always go up from there.

He told me the dash wasn't hacked up for the a/m radio. Just so happens I have a 65 radio for it (should I decide to go through with the deal). Thanks for your info.. Btw.....do you know of any inspection co.'s that will inspect a car of this age? Most wont inspect a vehicle older than 1981. Carchex wont and SGS wont do it either. Any info. would be useful. Thanks again !

Hey now, just type "classic car inspections" in your browser, and you will have a variety of choices.......as the other folks said, and I agree, ask 9-10,000 and see what happens. If it's solid[I wouldn't expect no rust, but minimal would be nice]it's worth the 12,000, I'd think. and it runs??? I see f/b shells going for nice money, good luck, Lenny

to me, that seems a little high. I would offer $9,000 and see what he says.

Good Luck,
Sore
