My Fastback finally arrived but I need assistance.
Well my baby arrived today before I got back to town. It's the black one on my avatar. I started her up and man you hear nothing but power. I'm curious what the HP it has. It feels more than 300 for sure but I have to get it dynoed.
I need help with a few things since I don'tknow much about this mustangs. For one look at the pic and you will notice what looks to me to be the oil pan. Is it normal for it to be that low? its a 351 modified to a 383 and it has lots of custom made engine parts. I'll take better pics of it tomorrow in the day light. Also are brakes suppose to feel like modern cars? The brakes take a while to engage, I think maybe the drum brakes need work front disks look fine.
Congrats on your new (finally) arrival!!-oil pan does seem low, maybe put some kind of "skid plate" like on a 4X4,or check around for a replacement,or be VERY careful-Brakes?-I've never gotten a classic to feel just like a new one..one day I'll build one using all new stuff, maybe then

That looks like an aftermarket pan - don't lower the car... The pan probably provides more oil capacity, so you might want to contact the previous owner if possible, to find out how much it takes. If you can find out what brand the pan is (like Canton) that company might be able to tell you. Be careful going over bumps, it looks like the pan has already been dinged, but it should be OK, as long as it's not leaking.
The shockproof gauge is mounted to the intake manifold, and is a temperature gauge. It's threaded into a coolant passage. I also see Taylor sparkplug wires.
Looks to be a nice car!!! An older kid had one just like it, with a 289 HiPo, when I was a freshman in high school, but sadly, he rolled it. This was in like 1981...

thanks guys. i'll take more pics now since its daylight out. This baby does have power. She starts right at the turn of the key. I drove it by the back roads and I got lots of attention. I'll record the sound so you can hear her roar. I'll call the previous owner about the oil pan and the brakes. Is it normal for the brakes not to stop on the dime? I hit it and slows down but not like modern cars. I have drums on the rear and disk on the front.
BTW I bought it from the original owner. He gave it to his son back in 1984 and I got it from the son. I have the original owners manual
It looks like a Holley. It's at least Holley double pumper style, with dual inlets, dual accelerator pumps, and center hung floats. It also has the choke horn removed for smoother airflow. Judging from the markings on the bowls, I'd say it has #74 jets for the secondaries, and #70 jets for the primaries, with a 6.5 power valve.
It also has, what I guess must be, a Lokar pedal and throttle cable assembly. And I see what I guess is a fuel pressure regulator, too (the round red thing).
Looks like a purty darned nice setup!

I was trying to look at the pictures to see but can't tell.I don't think you mentioned if it had power brakes or not.If it doesn't that's probably why it's harder to stop.

good point I forgot about that. I know it has power steering but I don't think it has power brakes. It almost feels like is missing brakes, I guess power brakes are worth having. I didn't see a master cylinder either. Just the old fashioned brake fluid holder.
meangrean I guess the carb is good? I always heard the best carbs are edlebrock. i'll take more pics of the engine today when I take it out of the garage.
Oh yeah, that's a good carb. Edelbrocks are good for trouble free "set it and forget it" operation, but Holleys are what you want for tunability.
That Holley has a custom main body, with no choke. That's bad for cold starts, but good for airflow and power.
I'd be hesitant to make any changes to that car, because it's so well put together, and set up.
That's a really nice car, bad@$$ too!
It has to have a master cylinder, but it prolly doesn't have a vacuum booster.

Thanks meangrean for the compliment. I haven' taken all pictures of the engine yet but you would see so many additional stuff they put on the engine. i'll take some pics today and post it when I get the car out of the garage. as far as the no choke bad for starts what do you mean? bad for the carb or just bad b/c it won't crank up easily?
