Default 1965 Mustang Rear Wheel Sizes

Hello all!
I am currently in process of building up my 65 Coupe, and was curious as to what wheel widths you guys are running out there. I am planning on going with 16" Torque Thrusts, and was wondering what the WIDEST wheel possible is to fit on these cars. I am going to have them custom made if they aren't available stock.

Any thoughts and recommendations are welcome

i am in the process of getting new wheels and tires. in the front 225/50r 16x7 and in the rear 245/50r16x8. At first i wanted some huge wheels and tires like you, but then i saw the price and i talked my self out of it.

Make sure you pay attention to backspacing!! I am in that trouble boat from a previous owner. 15x8's in the back with only a 3 3/4 inch backspacing and 245's... they had to put air shocks and stick it in the air to not get it to rub on bumps. Now i need to replace the rear tires (slice marks - maybe 225's would work), hoping to not have to replace the wheels. There was a good article from mustangs plus in their catalog on backspacing... http://www.mustangsplus.com/catalog/

What adjustments should you make if the backspacing is incorrect? Say the 15x8's in that image show a 4.5in backspace with 235/60R/15 .. If you have a 3 3/4 or 4 inch backspace on 15x8's .. how would it effect the tire size? (ie .. i have 15x8's rear with 235/60R/15 on 4 inch backspace that slices bad on the tire) Can i just use a smaller tire.. say 205's? I dont really want to buy new wheels.

I am running 15X7 chrome torque thrust D's w/ 225/55 G Force Sport tires in rear. I just got through narrowing my rear to make them fit inside the wheel well and get get rid of the air shocks. You could probably run 245's, if you did a good job of choosing the wheel and/or getting your housing cut to the proper width. You'll probably have to rework the wells if you want to go wider. If you want to run the widest possible tire, then you have to design either your wheel or your rear axle to fit the tire into the well. You won't have much choice for the wheel back spacing on the torque thrust D's. Lot's more options are available on thrust II's, you might want to look at them instead. Good Luck!

newstalgia wheels is now making some the torque thrust in some interesting sizes and backspacing options. I would go toward the II, but i dont want the polished / chrome look at all. Im trying to go for a bid of a rat look with this car, and want only a tiny little bit of chrome / shine.
