I hear people talk about having their engines "blueprinted". What exactly is blueprinting and what does it mean? I hear it often and really would like to know. Thanks guys, Steve

Nothing more than bringing an engine to precise tolerances. Improves reliability and reduces "internal friction". Doesnt really make an engine go fast, just helps keep one together while going fast.

Artistang is 90% correct. Every engine has an initial set of drawings (blueprints) with exact measurements for every part, clearance, torque, etc. Because production engines are mass produced, engineers indicate allowable tolerances, plus or minus so much difference from the blueprints, as an acceptable build.

Blue printing takes the engine to the exact specs on the original drawing - no plusses or minuses. In many cases, blueprinting will not only make the engine more durable but will actually improve power and efficiency. In some cases, when the tolerances stack the right way, blueprinting can actually cause a degradation in power.

yeah guys! that some good information! Does someone have to take their car to a pro to get it blueprinted? do they get a certificate thing? and if not, cant someone just SAY that it is blueprinted and no one would ever know?
