Default Where to buy tires for a Mustang 1965

Hello,

I'm looking around for some new tires for my Mustang 1965, V8, 289hp. Right now I do have BF Goodrich (Redline) 6.95x14. I'm looking actually for some "huger" / wider tires. What sizes I could choose? Do anyone a good source to buy some?

Thanks

Alex

Are you looking to stay original in appearance? Coker Tire has some great tires for the "original" crowd.

Thanks, I just want to get some nice drivable tires for my Mustang 65. It can be something else as original tires. How do I know what sizes fit the rim (GT rims). I have now 6.95x14 tires on it. Would 205/70-14 or 215/70-14 fit as well?

Gee, a tire store sells tires....

A 215/60/14 would be a good fit for wider tires. I'd just get some ordinary tires, there probably isn't a big selection in 14" anymore.

I loved the BF Goodrich TA's on my car. And, unfortunately, 5.0 is right... Not too many 14" tires to be had any longer. But, if you could find them, the 215's would be cool.

Default tires

Alex,

I have a 65 coupe and have had a really hard time finding decent rubber in 14" So I bought a set of 16" American Racing Torque Thrust II in brushed color and BFG's G Force Sport 245/50/16 Rear and 225/50/16 Fronts, they look great!! The 225's are a little shorter than the 245's and I have a set of lowered front springs so the front end is about 1" lower than the rear, so the stance is awesome!

I have 215/70/14 BFG TA's on styled steel wheels on my '66. They seem to fit well, except they will rub a little if you hit a pretty good bump while making a sharp, low speed turn. Very seldom does that.
I chose the 215/70's because the circumference is very close to the original tire. If you go to the 60 series tire, in the 215 section width, it will have a shorter circumference. It will be like going to about a 5% lower gear ratio.
A 225/60/15 is similar in circumference to the 215/70/14.
I don't have any pictures posted of mine with the TA's on it, yet, but I really like the look of the original style rims and solid letters.
Somewhere on this site is a pdf chart of various combinations of tires and rims and what, if any, mods have to be made for them to fit.

The Tire Rack in Indiana is a great place to pick up new rubber, both price-wise and service-wise. I had 4 new BF Goodrich T/A's put on my '65 Fastback last year for less than $450. I went with P235/14's all around on my original styled wheels. Be careful going over 235's though. I find with that cornering at above average speed (cough, cough) the rear tires rub. But they look awesome! Btw.....The Tire Rack ships FAST! Hope this helps

Try Diamond Back Classic Radials.I plan on installing 15x7's and 15x8's 1967 Styled Steel Wheels with
225/60-15's and 235/60-15's.
