Default 1966 fastback... good deal?

I decided to ask this on this part of the forum. Well, I've found a 66' Gold fastback with 289 2v and manual tranny. This owner is an old guy (2nd owner) who has fixed anything rust related (floorboards, etc.) and has put some money into it including new paint. Been Garaged and he is asking $9,000 obo for it. 81,000 on the odometer. I'm thinking that it's a great price with not a whole lot to do to it. I was thinking pick it up, store it and work on it. When it comes time, I'll take it out on the streets. What do you folks think about the price? I'm checking it out and it is feeling good.

I have the money for it and I have the mechanical knowledge and I'm kind of stoked to work on an old 289 and see what can become of it. I love Mustangs!

I'd have to see some pictures, but from the description it sounds pretty good. You could try Ebay and see what some like it are going for. Also Hemmings would be a good place to look.

$9K for a potential $30K car? There's no question about it. If this guy really is the 2nd owner and it has less that 100,000 miles. I'd pick it up today regardless of what you have to do to it.

I have one myself (289 3spd.) if you have any questions or need anything. I say go for it! By the way I'm a hoosier myself, where is pierceton?

I think I am going to go pick it up. I've seen lots of pictures and it looks GREAT. It's an older guy and I really don't think he knows what he has. Interior is original but looks amazing and the carpet is new. From what I can tell, it's completely numbers matching. Fastback65, I'll prolly will be asking a lot of questions, b/c I've worked on cars, but nothing like this.

OH, Pierceton is about 1hr south of South Bend in Kosciusko county and about 45 mins west of Fort Wayne. If you look at our county, find the little inside corner on the right side, Pierceton is just to the left of it. I think I know where Marengo is.

your crazy if you don't jump on that. i paid over 23k for my mustang 65 fastback(granted it has a high performance engine, over 400 HP). You'll make over 10-15k profit later on. Nice investment.

Haha, I know! As we post, I'm making arrangements for a price and to come see it. When I asked for the VIN, the guy gave me the warranty code. That's how I pulled the engine info and such. Dearborn, MI car with 2v 289. I was going for it on Sunday, but I may get out there earlier to secure this thing before it slips away.

Wally buddy, any sane Mustang enthusiast would have their sleeping bag loaded already to sleep next to that car so someone else doesn't come along and try to steal her when you're not there !

Well, I went and checked it out last night, test drove it and all I can say is "yippee." It was actually a lady that was selling it. It was her Dad's. She loves the car, but she is going through a divorce, so it needs to go. They apparently bumped up the price, but they don't really realize what they have. They now want 11k for it firm. Not a big deal. It just needs little odds and ends, but other than that. it's great. The underbody looked great, but the front frame rails may need a tiny bit of work. All the original sheetmetal and everything is in great shape and the engine starts right up and runs great. Nice shifting 4 speed also. I made an offer, and I think they want to take it, but they wanted to wait until around 3pm tomorrow to decide for sure. . I'm a day away from my dream 66 fastback.

Oh, and another cool little tidbit... It has the Rally Pac option and some other semi-rare stuff...
