Default 1965 DSO 89 special use quesion

I have a 1965 mustang fastback with the DSO code 89... which I have found out means for special use of the Ford Transportation Services. I would like to know what they did with these cars or if there is a way to find out what the did with my specific car? I have read a little about special promotional use or management VIP reservations, but that is all that it said... no details. Any help would be greatly appretiated! I can't find anything about it!

Details are sketchy since there's many uses Ford could have had for the vehicle.

DSO 89 is in fact a vehicle that was built and kept by Ford for it's use until no longer needed and sold off to the general public. Most of these vehicles were used as perks for executives, management and other "important people". They would keep them for months to maybe a year or two until newer models replaced them as they were mixed into the fleet.

Others were used for promotional work and advertising.

The last thing these cars could have been were quality control and crash cars that Ford would test. These were the cars they would drive around on tracks and other proving grounds to see how they held up and also the ones that were outright crashed for safety tests. Basically these cars would have been destroyed so you're chances of having one are remote to nonexistent.

Basically your car would have been an executive or promotional car.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

I hope so, I also found something that said they were used in movies! I wonder if there is any way to find out what mine was used for? Is there a way to track down who the first owner was? I know who the second was, and I am the third!

They don't seem to command more money. People buy the cars mostly for the bodystyle, color and/or options, not where they were destined for originally.

I don't know anything about the movies. Not saying none of them ever made it into one but these cars were produced for Ford's needs not Hollywoods.

If you know who the second was I'd try contacting them and find out who, when and where they got the car from. They might be able to fill in more of the history. If you get a name or partial name you could try an internet search to see if you could track them down. Finding the first owner would be something and may shed some light on the cars history.

I should have also mentioned this morning the DSO 89 would also be used for any vehicle Ford needed (or wanted). For example, if they needed a box truck or stake body for use at one of the plants they could have produced a chassis cab with DSO 89 destined for use by one of thier plants or factories.

From what little info there is about these vehicle none seem to have been delivered to dealers. Ford would produce the vehicle and then send it to where it was needed. No sense in sending it to a dealer only to have a dealer ship it back to Ford somewhere.

I have no info for 65 and 66 models as all that info was destroyed back in the early 80s. I can tell you to that there were much less Mustangs produced each year for DSO 89 than there were for all the export ones (90-99) combined!

DSO 89 production,

1967............2,608
1968............743
1969............1,897
1970............829
1971............1,061
1972............525
1973............466

Notice a trend too? The most were produced the first year of a new body style than the subsequent years of that style, 1967, 1969, and 1971!
