Default Paint GURU's Needed

we have a NEW cool twist on our 67 Stang.

Here's where I need your help. The car is a rare 1 of 99 Diamond Blue Convertible. Now then that is cool, HOWEVER!!!! Looking at the car , door jams, under the convertible top attachments, in the compartment that holds the top while it's down, in the trunk, in EVERY crevice of this car it ALL matches....appears that its one and only paint job since the factory was on the outside like normal and all remaining paint was "original' from the factory.
Here's the kicker....looking at paint code colors it DOES NOT match Diamond Blue...it is Acupalco Blue. I swear it looks like someone at the factory THOUGHT they were tagging a Diamond Blue and got the paint code wrong......
anyone EVER heard of this happening before?????

Hello. That is actually quite common. The original paint had faded some by the time it got the first repaint and the body shop just matched up what was there instead of looking up the code. My car was Skylight Blue originally and had all original paint on it when I pulled it out of the barn it had been in for the previous 25 years. I though the car was white when I looked at it, but when I looked at the door tag and saw a Y I knew it was really a blue car, got to rubbing on it a little and, yup, it was blue. Blue seems to wash out worse than a lot of other colors. If you're going to paint the car, I think that I would go by the code instead of matching a chip. Hope that helps.

Mrs.V, I agree, we love "whatever" it is....but the swatch by the "official books" looks much darker. The car will get what it is suppose to get due to the really odd items that separate this car from the crowd. I don't see any Diamond Blue cars other than the one in the faded photo ...but it DOES look like ours. http://www.svs.com/zim/mustang/images/67-N.jpg
With that said I am sure the swatch is ....well wrong. Too many other clues lead me to believe what we see on the car is correct. There is no way someone put that much trouble into repainting a car and changing the whole thing without doing a full restore.
but I'm scratching my head wondering how the swatch is wayyyyyy different imo.
Does PPG offer any help??? I need to be sure this is right. I know I can't be the first guy with an odd color car.

Hi again. I've got original Ford paint chips and interior swatches for everything that Ford built from the 1960 model year through 1968. If you like I could go dig out the 67 Diamond Blue and scan it and post it for you. I seem to remember that being a very light shade of blue, but I could be mistaken. I'll go poking around for it in the morning.
