Default Need Help Selecting Engine for 1965 Mustang Fastback. Thinking 351W?

Well I need help! I'm at the point to select an engine for my 65' Fastback 2+2. I am not going stock so I want a bigger engine. I have been looking at 351W and 331 strokers, which people have been telling me to go for. I don't want to do any modifications to the towers and the car has power disc/drum so I am going with modern driveline's cable clutch. Price range is 7 to 8K

This has caught my eye, I know its a cobra but I'm likin':

All I can say is that headers on a 351 in a 65 or 66 Mustang are a very tight fit. I would go with a 331 or 347.

I have to agree...a Windsor in a 64 1/2 to 66 Mustang is not a good time. Even in my Mom's 68 Cougar, we took out the Windsor for a 90 HO Mustang motor and it was faster, easier to work on and drove better.

There is a weight penalty on top of the tight fit.

Get a good 347, IMO 351W engines are good truck & boat engines, but have never really impressed me as a Hot Rod engine.

If you go with the small windsor I would go 331. The rod angles on the 347 make it a low time engine as far as dependability. The 351w is great for stroking. A cheap version uses a stroker crank, 302 pistons and the stock rods. It comes out to a 393cid. You need to invest in some heads though like the Edlebock Victor Jrs because the stock ones can't feed it good enough for hiperformance.
