Default brake upgrade question

hey guys i have a 1968 mustang and trying to upgrade the brakes. they have the drums on the front now. i have access to a 2002 front clip, and curious to if the brake calipers and rotors and possibly the spindles will fit the 1968. or if you know of a year that will transfere to the 1968. thanks in advance for any help.

Nope, not even close. You need an aftermarket kit or some Granada parts. Lastly, you could seek out some original discs since they were available in 68.

Make sure you get the appropiate Master Cylinder and proportioning valve too.

actually, you can use the brakes from an 99-04 mustang. Most people use the Cobra brakes but the GT brakes are also used. You need to buy a bracket to mount them on your stock spindles. As far as I know, there is no way to adapt the newer spindles to the classics. Here are a few places to start reading up on.

Daze Cars was selling the GT brackets up until very recently. You may want to see if he plans on listing them again. Good Luck.

No you can't use the brakes. Daze and others pulled the brackets due to safety concerns and if I understood him right, they NEVER intend to sell them again.

There aint a cheap way to do it, plain and simple, and to put it straight to you, if you think you can save money over a kit, you're crazy!

I would reccomend Scarebird as I have $300 in my front brake setup, but he changed the kit and I don't like the new one. Not nearly as easy or well thought out as the one I have.

I'd give discbrakeswap.com $550 for their new Granada style kit. It's the cheapest, best way to do it now that Scarebird sucks again IMO.

You are right about the GT brakes. I spoke with Daze and he said they are pulled due to the concerns of the spindle needing to be machined. So as of right now, unless you find an old set of those brackets or custom make your own, there isn't a way to adapt the 99-04 GT brakes to the classics. But you can still do the Cobra brakes.

Your best bet is going to be thru discbrakeswap.com. It is $550 plus shipping and includes everything. They are very helpful and will answer any question you have. That is what I have on my 65.
