Default 1968 X code coupe value?

I am restoring an x code coupe. It has good original sheet metal except for rear quarter on drivers side. Solid floorboards, frame and everything else. I am trying to figure out if it would be worth more to leave the factory 2V setup on it as it has all the original parts there now or should I make it a mean machine instead? New intake, 4V, possibly cam, etc.? What do you think it would sell for in either case? It is going to have completely new interior, paint stripped to metal and redone, all new chrome outside, original bench seat, ac, automatic car. Any help is greatly appeciated. Color is Sunlit Gold. Without factoring in the color this car is 1 of 15 as built. With the color maybe 1 of 1 but I have not checked yet. Thanks, Joe

I have not seen enough X codes around to see what their value goes for. With only 733 built between all 3 body styles (477 hardtop, 189 fastback and 67 convert) they just don't show up often.

I would guess thier value is better than a C coded 289 or J code 302 but less than a S code 390 4v. The bench seat wasn't a popular option either so that may add a little value plus the fact the car has A/C.

Being a rare car like that I would personally tend to keep it original or close to it. It's your car and if you would enjoy it more as a 4v then I would change the parts over BUT I would keep all the original 2v stuff so it could go back original if you or another owner wants. 95% of the people looking at the car won't even know what an X code is or that it even existed, heck......even most of the Mustang books I have say nothing about the X code that was available in 68.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Yeah, Therein lies the problem. I can't find another car with this code that has been sold or is for sale. The rarity of the car and having a big block should be good but the coupe part is a drawback. I am leaning toward the 4V etc. because that is what I would want to drive then restore the original parts to go with the car in a sale. This is the only mustang coupe I ever considered buying. It is almost the ultimate sleeper. Nothing like big block power. I think it will be a tough looking car when it is done. I am changing out the rear valance for the duals and getting rid of the whitewalls and hubcaps for the chrome argent wheels. I normally buy and sell quickly but this being my first big block coupe I may just drive it and wait for the right buyer. thanks for your post!
