Default what size mig welder?

Want to replace radiator support, front frame supports under floorpans and repair rusted areas. What size welder is big enough for the job, thinking a Lincoln welder from home depot, any help would be great. thanks

I've done quite a bit of work with my Millermatic 135 with gas. This is a 110v model and adequate for auto repair. If you think you will need to weld heavier stuff then step up to a 230v model.

Whatever you do make sure you get gas and not have it set up for fluxcore. The welds will be much neater, especially doing sheetmetal work.

You can see some of the repairs I've done on my 68 Mustang here with my welder, http://www.jasonsgarage.com/inner_fe...placement2.htm and on following pages.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

I've had a Lincoln SP-170-T (I think it's now called an SP-175) for about 15 years now and love it. I bought it to replace my old MillerMatic 230 when it had a melt down. It's a 220V Welder in the small case (like the little 110v machines) so it handles the larger jobs. I have mine set up as a MIG with 75%/25% Co2/Argon gas. BUT..... if you don't have a 220 plug, the 110 machines do very well on sheet metal work like you're looking to do, I personally would go with a MIG set up over the inner-shield type of wirefeed.
