Default should i put my current straight 6 in now and later swap a 302

i have a 1968 mustang coupe with a straight 6 engine that is in pretty good shape i replaced the gaskets got a new starter, wires and spark plugs i was wondering if i should save up the money and put a 302 in right off the bat which means i also need a new rear end or should i just put the straight 6 in now get the car running and painted then when i get enough money put the 302 in. Also is there a difference between a straight 6 wiring harness and a 302 wiring harness?

Do your chassis work first. Brakes, spindles, suspension, and all the rest of the stuff that will cause you headaches you should do first -before the engine swap.

I would run the 6 for now as you save up and collect the parts needed for the swap. I say this because you have the 6 and it's ready to go. You need to get the suspension and brakes upgraded first like mentioned above before dropping the V8 in but there's no reason you couldn't use the 6 with the new parts right up until you're ready to drop the 302 in.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.
