TMI vs Distinctive Industries Uphost., 1966 Mustang
The two main competitors for classic mustang upholstery seem to be TMI and Distinctive Industries. Does anyone have an opinion about which is better in quality and match to original colors? I've got an ivy green and whilte pony interior I will be replacing. I've come across a few forum posting on other sites that are a few years old and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. Any help appreciated.
I don't have enough info to compare the two as I've only dealth with TMI. I used their upholstery to redo my front buckets and rear seat on my 66. The fit was incredible and the color match to my Aqua interior was spot on.
Just thought I'd throw in my .02...

This is an old post - I went with TMI and have been very happy. Quality materials and it installed perfectly. If I ever do it again, I'll use TMI. BTW, they now sell a nice looking strap on cup holder/console that matches the interior colors perfectly.

Glad you got it all squared away! Pics?
I've also seen the pics of the Humphugger Consoles and I really like them. I'll most likely get one but I have other projects that need done first.

Its the original pony ivy gold and white. It was actually pretty easy to do - with a little patience and lots of time to attach all those ^&* hogrings! The worst part was learning about all those repop parts that don't fit quite right. The trunk is next - looking at an ACC carpet kit.

I did the upholstery on my 66 and thankfully I have small hands. I had scrapes and cuts all over my arms and hands!
It saved quite a bit of money over a prof. install but I don't know if I'd have the desire to do it again.
We have the original mat in our 66 that is in pretty decent shape but I've been looking at carpet kits as well. We're not going original with our restoration and the carpet in the trunk just looks so much more refined.

The worse part is those listing wires that you need to get the hogrings through. My 11 yr old learned a few new words the days I was putting the front seat together. Now that I've done it I would hesitate to do it again - I learned a few tricks on the first seat that helped out on the second.
My ride is a mix of classic original (the interior mainly) and some restomods like 4 wheels discs, 17 inch wheels, a T5 tranny, power R&P steering, and a beefed-up 289. It wasn't a rare car to start but now its really special - at least to me.

There's no shame in doing a combo car. Safety is always an issue and your upgrades just make sense for a daily driver (or driver in general).
