Default 1964 Mustang - an appropriate choice?

Hi everyone

This is my first post here, so excuse me if I sound a little new
I'm 19yrs old and have loved mustangs and wanted one for a while.
I'm just wondering - what are the sort of costs associated with them, beyond the purchase price? I can get the money to buy it, but I'm worried about how much I'll have to pay to keep it up and running!
There is a 1964 coupe that has caught my eye (online), and I haven't had a look at it in person yet so I'm not 100% of its condition, but it does look to be quite healthy.

Thanks for your help,

Angus

Hiya and welcome. Glad you joined us.
These things can break your bank account if you let it. The amount you spend on it can be unlimited so there's no actual answer. It's like a disease where you just keep adding and adding to it.

Default Appropriate choice?

Angus,
Unless you really have your heart set on a '64.5 - '66 year model Mustang, I would consider going with a '67 - '68 or later model. These later models have some extra features already on many of them such as disc brakes, dual reservoir master cylinder, collapsible steering column, etc. that are better for safety if you are going to drive them daily. All of these items are big $$$ to convert from an older model Mustang.
Also, the '67 and newer are a bit more comfortable to drive.
Anyway, my $.02 - but you need to get what you want - not what somebody else wants.

Hey guys, thanks for your replies!

I don't have my heart set on a particular year, just one of the first generation ones (I'm not too keen on the '74+ ones...)

I saw a very nice looking '69 convertible the other day for sale online! Owner says it has lots of new parts and is currently used as a daily driver, so I'm waiting for him to get back to me with roughly how much I might be looking at spending in maintenance etc (oh the life of a poor student!).

Parents think I'm mad and should wait a few years...! But they're such nice cars...
