Essentially, if the interior you have deviates from this, it sounds like someone didn't do a good job being true in restoring it. |
I respectfully disagree - this is what the Mach 1 package is supposed to be, but there are a lot of Mach 1 Mustangs that came with standard buckets, short console without a clock, standard door panels, and the idiot lights instead of gauges and a tach.
I bought a 1971 Mach 1 in 1977 from the original owner (who had not modified anything) with a plain interior (red vinyl seats, black carpet) This car also did not even have the standard steering wheel, but a 3 spoke like a Maverick. It did have AC and the maplight. I found some red/black comfort weave hi back buckets, deluxe carpet, door panels, gauges, etc. in a junkyard and put the interior in my car
As an MCA judge in the 80's, I saw several of Mach 1 package cars with a plain interior, (some with a 351C-2V) and I have converted a couple and sold parts for others to convert them over the years. I have only seen a very few with the steering wheel like mine had - I think all of them were 71 models instead of 72 - 73 models.
