The manual steering gear box ratio is 19:1 and the power steering box has a 16:1 ratio. You will have a faster steering response using the power steering box with the manual linkage. This is what I'm using on my 67, but you will not want to use a steering wheel any smaller than 14 inches or so. You will need the leverage of the larger st. wheel to offset the loss of mechanical advantage with the quicker ratio.

What this all boils down to is when you go with the quicker ratio box it gets harder to turn the st. wheel in parking situations. Once the car is moving the steering effort is greatly reduced.

If you decide to use the Maverick box, you will have to either go with a 68 collapsable st. column or do some modification so that you can use the Maverick column. The reason is that your original st. box has a long undetachable input shaft that runs from the box all the way to the st. wheel and the Mav. box has a short shaft with a "Rag Joint" that connects to a seperate shaft that runs through the st. column up to the st. wheel.

The short shaft boxes first started being used in the 67 Mustang, but not all 67s had them. All of the boxes went to the short shaft design in 68 so that a collapsable column could be used. Much safer than having a solid shaft aimed at your chest.
