Best bet is to start with the previous owner and work your way back.
I don't know if Florida is a title state or not. You can try a title search at the DMV but due to disclosure laws they may not give you specific owner info. Doesn't hurt to try.
The other problem is if the car was registered in a state like CT where I am that doesn't require or even issue titles for older cars then the title search won't work.
