Default which tranny to use...aod or c4, 1965 Mustang

got another one for you all!!!! some infor on my car to help. It's a 65 coupe, 91 5.0 347 stroker with lots of mods, estimated to be around 435 hp with over 450 lb torque. I have two options, aod, or c4. which ever I go with will be rebuilt and upgraded to handle the power. I know the c4 will basicly just go right in as that is what it had in it when I got it. as for the aod, I know what I need to put it in, HOWEVER, I have heard stories of nightmares with running aod's with a carb'd motor.
anyone hear of this or know anything different?
any and all info is greatly appreciated!!!

Id use a aod since its got a overdrive well worth it on the highway. The aod is like the c4 just with a over drive and locking torque converter or get the aode it runs off a ecu little harder to put in tho.

If I had the choice, the AOD wins hands down. There used to be issues with a carbed motor because of the TV cable hook-up, but that is not a problem any more. There are several TV cable adapters to fit the carb available, just make sure you get the adjustment correct, that is critical.

that is what I have heard, but I just wanted to hear some feedback. so does anyone know of any issues once you get the adjustment set and done correctly? like cable stretch, loosening, anything like that? just curious.
thanks again for the help!!!

The 80's to 90's cars with an AOD did not have a problem with cable stretch or loosening, so I would figure it is a very reliable setup myself. Use quality parts and follow the instructions for the TV cable adjustment EXACTLY, you should be good to go.
