Default Literature recommendations?

I have learned more in the last few days about cars than ever imaginable. I never grew up taking interest in mechanics, but I have a new found interest. I am about to make the decision of a lifetime and buy my first "muscle" car, probably a 1968 mustang, 66, 67, or maybe 69. I have learned alot about engines, engine blocks, performance, and all that good stuff, yet I find myself still not knowing what a rear end's purpose is (although I know I will probably need one), what headers' purpose are, etc. etc. You know, basic knowledge about how these sweet cars work.

Is there any books or websites you recommend so I can continue my mechanical self education, specially on classic mustangs?

Thanks,

Jadi

Jadi, I'm also new to this and there's alot of stuff out there. You can buy books at places like mustangsunlimited.com, mustangdepot.com, Laurelmountian, & of course EBAY

Hello. Just go ahead and buy the car. It will make a mechanic out of you whether you want that to happen or not. The best book that you could possibly buy is the appropriate year model shop manual, without a doubt. They are available from most suppliers of vintage mustang parts for something in the 35 dollar range, unless you decide to get a 69. That's a five volume set that runs about a hundred bucks. Good luck.

The only thing I would add to that is with after-market performance pieces, which you won't find in your shop manual. (Veronica's "right on" on this manual being a must) If you have a question about headers, intakes, etc. Throw it out on these forums and I'll almost bet some one has tried it and will give some feedback on it. If you have the interest you say, you're going to have a blast.
