Default 1965 Mustang Hood Scoop - Ideas/Help

So I've been building a restomod 1965 mustang for a while and I'm getting close to finishing up the body work and am down to some crucial decisions before I proceed to painting the car. Here's where I'm open to some opinions - it's a coupe, and I'm trying to figure out what kind of hood scoop to put on (I don't want to replace the steel hood).

By far, what I've been able to locate are primarily fiberglass scoops from numerous vendors of which are primarily three types - the 65/66 shelby bolt/bond-on, the 68 style, and the eleanor style. To be honest, I'm stumped as to which one to choose and I like all three.

So...pick one and bolt/bond-on only, or bolt/bond-on and cut the hood to make it functional?

Next thought - has anyone found metal hood scoops anywhere, and if so where? I've only found one somewhere online and haven't found anything since. Thanks for the opinions in advance.

Default hood scoop

hey check out my cardomain site 3rd page.

I bought a stock hood $120
a fiberglass hood scoop through MASracing $65 + $20 shipping
tube of duramix epoxy $35 gun rental free
bought duraglass bondo with fiberglass mix $17
probally another $25 in primer and sandpiper

So i still spent almost $300 had to spend lots of time sanding which is very messy.

so next time i will just buy the whole fiberglass hood.

Think about a Thunderbolt (teardrop) hood? Seen them on 'stangs and they look pretty good, the 65/66 Shelby is probably the best looking of the options you listed...

i prefer the 67-69 shelby style on the 65-66 hood. I'll be getting a fiberglass one. You should go fiberglass, it will cut down your weight a little bit too :-) give you some extra speed ;-)

also, you can sell your steel hood for a decent penny if it's an original.

Default Hood scoop

If you didnt mind spending the money, I would go with a nice one piece hood/scoop combo. I purchased mine from Tony Branda, which specializes in Shelby parts. My 65 hood/scoop is a perfect fit, which has reinforced steel, as well.

I think one of the best looking hoods I've ever seen on '65 Mustang was back in the late 80's or early 90's in one of the Mustang magazines (don't remember which one anymore). It was a black '65 coupe, with a B&M roots blower, and it had a Boss 429 scoop with the hood cut out for the air cleaner to fit through for clearance.
