Default 1968 Mustang GT Brakes and Fuel Questions

Not too familiar with classic cars, and I test drove what I hope is my soon to be 1968 Mustang GT. However I experienced 2 problems that concerned me and I wanted your thoughts, since I don't know how much weight to give the owner's since he is biased on the negotiations.

1. The car sputtered on me a little and turned off when I was at a light right as I was accelerating. The owner warned me this might happen, but he said it has not done it prior to today, and he thinks it has to do with maybe bad gasoline, although he claims he always puts premium. Thoughts as to what it may be? Gas? Alternator? Battery? Fuel injection? Anything else?

2. I understand that brakes today are more advanced and different from what classic cars had. However it concerns me that I had to floor the brakes in order to bring the car to a stop. If I were to do that with most cars today, I would be flying through the windshield. My initial thoughts was that the brakes needed an alignment, but I am no expert and have little experience. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Jadi

The engine needs a tune up and a carb tuning maybe rebuild.Could even be bad gas if its sat for 6 months or longer. If your trying to stop and the brake pedal goes to the floor the master cylinder is bad or low on fluid if its a real gt it has front disc it should stop ok.

Hello. The stalling on take-off thing is probably carburetor related one way or another.Without some more information, like engine displacement, size and brand of carb, the general state of tune, etc.. it would be impossible to say any more. If the car is a GT it should have front disc brakes and stop just fine. If they aren't power brakes, more foot force will be required, but the actual stopping distance required shouldn't be significantly different modern car. If the pedal actually went nearly to the floor then there are some issues with the brake system. Hope that helps.
