Question 351c oil problems

i cant seem to get any oil to come out of my push rods when the motor is running. another strange thing is happening also. i have oil squirting up the drain holes in the bottom of the head. i just put a brand new oil pump in, and i dont think the cam bearings are turned. i am only getting about 3psi of oil pressure (gauge inlet by the fuel pump). when the motor is running i can see the valley fill up through the head. does ne one know what is going on?

Cleveland oiling systems from the factory fall short in terms of oil delivery to the main bearings. It's a good idea to begin Cleveland oiling system mods at the pump. Opt for a Speed-Pro high-volume pump, which yields 25 percent more volume thanks to a wider G-rotor package and cavity. It is also advisable to install a 100-psi pressure-relief spring if you're going racing. Ideally, you will blueprint your 351C oil pump before installation. The next oiling system mod is a restrictor kit from Moroso (PN 2205), which improves oil flow to the main bearings.
Cleveland engines' oil passages need to be worked smooth to reduce oil turbulence. The same is true for oil drainback holes, which need help to improve oil scavenging.

That being said, there has to be a bearing problem that's preventing oil flow through the camshaft.

the guy who had the car before me mixed synthetic with a regular motor oil. this made a nasty sludge. go think this could be blocking one of the oil passages, and if so, where is the most likely place?

Something else to check. Just rambling though my countless crazy experiences....check to see if your gasket is on correctly. I put a pump on with the engine in the car and missed one of the bolt holes. It shot oil all over and pressure was scary. I could see well enough so I done it by the brail method. Lesson learned.

The deal with the oil squirting up from the drain back holes in the head has me wondering where it's finding the velocity to come up a drain. One thing is this. If the lifter bores are too big or the wrong diameter lifters are installed you will have a massive pressurized oil leak from around the lifters. You have so much oil and pressure loss that there isn't any oil to come up the pushrods at the rockers. The oil squirting up the drain holes is from the oil spraying out from around the lifters and reflecting up the drains.

The engine will run even if you have hydraulic lifters and they won't make any noise if the play is all adjusted out when the lifters were supposedly adjusted. The hyd. lifters will act just as if they were solids because they sure won't find enough oil pressure to pump up.

There is no wonder that you can't build up any oil pressure. You sure don't want to run this engine at all until you check this out. By the way, mixing synthetic oil with regular oil will not cause sludge. Moisture like water or coolant will cause this. Frequent short trips and a lack of oil changes will also.

How many miles have been logged on this engine? Is this a new rebuild? It seems that there is a problem with the chef. The food tastes funny.
