Default Anybody have pictures of how they mounted a tach in their 1965-1966 Mustang?

Im just scratching my head, trying to figure out how best to mount my tach in my 65. Car will be just a weekend hotrod but will see some track time.

Hello. Yup. I've got all sorts of pictures of real 65 and 66 Shelbys, rally pacs in 65/66 Mustangs, those old school Sun Super Tachs, all kinds of stuff. I would have posted some a while back for you, but I am still unable to upload any pictures, due to the server upgrade not being quite finished.

I was just about to say talk to Veronica. And yes, when the photo upload segment has been completed, I'm sure you'll get plenty of help on it.

Hi again. That's the pod that was used on the street version of the 65 Shelbys, which mounted on the dash pad up above where the radio would have been if the car had one. The R models had a 6 dial instrument bezel with a tach and speedo side by side in the middle and Stewart/Warner gauges that were about the same size as the 66 mustang gauges.

Thanks again everyone, Ill do some searching for pics. I am trying to figure out if its even worth buying the factory style gauges, especially since I just have a coupe and I dont think they were ever offered anyway (no coupe Shelby's). If someone fixed up my 65 "back in the day" what gauges would they have used? (if you cant already tell, I'm having trouble trying to figure out just how I want this car to be set up. I'm thinking "old school street rat" or something that looks like a hot rodded up mustang that Mickey Thompson built... I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Jeez-I build trucks!

Hi again. If you want that particular look, the best way to go would be with a Sun Super Tach held onto the steering column with a big hose clamp that you've painted to match the interior color. This was a very common practice in the 60s and 70s.

Can you see it in there

That's my old 3 inch or so sun tach

I ultimately replaced the bezel with a 6 gauge setup to make it look nicer for me

Hi again. Yup, that's how they did it. You didn't by any chance use a big hose clamp to attach that to the steering column did you, Nick?

Hi again. Move into the 21st century. We now have a system involving a combination of big zip ties and super glue that is nearly as good as welding.

Hi again. Here you go. The first one is a 65 Shelby. The second one is a 66 Shelby. You can see the base of the tach mounted on the dash. The third one is a rally pac on a 65 K code. I know I've got some pictures of an R model dash somewhere. I just need to find them and scan one.Hope that helps.

Hi again. I told you something that was wrong the other day. The R models didn't use Stewart/Warner gauges. They were the CS gauges made specifically for Shelby. I believe that they were made by Faria. Sorry about that.
