Hello.

: With your car that is actually a much more complicated question than it might seem at a glance for a few reasons. Yours is not a car that be repainted 'on the cheap'. A decent paint job on that car, in which none of that nearly 40 year old fiberglass that was pretty flimsy brand new gets busted or has the gel coat cut through, and doesn't have a bunch of sags, solvent pop and fish-eyes in it, is going to be, at the very minimum, something in the ten grand range. There is also the time in the paint shop to consider. Your car is worth more right now than it will be in 6 months, with everything else being equal. The market on these cars is really, really soft right now, and has been for a little while, and will continue to be for while longer. Cars like yours that nice examples were bringing 60 grand 10 years ago, shot up to nearly 5 times that much a couple of years ago, are now starting to get back down there where they're supposed to be. So, if you are thinking about repainting it in order to sell it in the immediate future, I would say no. The depreciation combined with the expense of the paint job will exceed the marginal increase in value. If, however, you do not intend to sell it in the immediate future, and the question is merely ' Is a car that's painted the right color worth more than a car that's painted the wrong color' the answer to that one would be yes. Hope that helps.
