Default 1971 Mach 1 FMX Limits

Folks,

I have a 1971 Mach 1 with a stock FMX transmission, slightly beefed up 351 C (2V w/ 4 barrel Edelbrock) and I have changed the rear end to a 3.25 for better gas mileage. I have no current plans to beef the thing up any more. The Beast will only get rubber if I stand on the brake first.

I plan to take it to our local track for the first time to find it’s upper limits. I have never been to a track before (sorry…brought up in New England).

Q: I have heard of a “neutral start” in which I can bring the RPMs up a bit and drop it into first. Good idea? Bad idea? Limits to RPM? Type of electromagnet to pick up exploded tranny parts? Thoughts?

Pax…Rob

The FMX trans was a good trans back in the days. But I would not nuetral drop any auto trans.
You will end up damaging something. With the FMX trans the parts maybe hard to get?

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks Fred...

I have no wish to pour any more money into this thing.
