Default 1968 Mustang 302 bell housing qustion

Hello and excuse me if this has been asked before but I couldn't find the search to search through the threads.
I have a 65 coupe with a 68 302, 10 inch clutch and three speed man trans. I also have a bell housing that won't fit! It's a C5AA6394A. From what I can tell the correct bell housing is a C8AA-6394-A or B. Now for the 60 thousand dollar question, what other casting numbers would work? Would a C5DAA-6394-A?

Thanks in advance for all that took the time to answer my question!

The small block ford had two bolt patterens in the 65 to 66 and up,
a 5 bolt and a 6 bolt pattern. You must have a 5 bolt bellhousing and are trying to put it on a 6 bolt motor. Get a 6 bolt bellhousing, or a 5 bolt motor.

Actually this is a 6 bolt and the block is a 6 bolt as well. The back plate is correct, the starter will line up to the flywheel. The bell housing, however, will not match the back plate nor the starter. The casting numbers are C5AA6394A, it's for an eleven inch clutch. Is this an odd ball and the rest of the bell housings are for a ten and ten 1/2 inch clutches?
Thanks
Doug

Default bellhousings

i think they had 2 different flywheel ring gear sizes 157 and 164. so they made 2 different housings

If the casting number is a C5xxx and is for a small block, it should have the five bolt pattern, not six. Guessing that the bell you have is for one of the FE series motors. A bellhousing for the 164 tooth flywheel will bolt to any small block from '66' till they quit making the small blocks.

The c5aa-6394-a is for a 1965-1967 390,427,428 with a 11" clutch. Here is a website that may help you David Kee Toploader Transmissions, Inc. it has id charts for bellhousings and transmission and some things that you may find interesting. I am building a 69 mach1 and I'm wondering If you would be interested in selling the bellhousing you have.
Thanks Brian
