Default Can I mount 2008 Mustang V6 wheels on a 1966 V8 Mustang?

I have a 1966 V8 Mustang Convertible which currently runs a set of 15x7 Shelby Ten Spokes with 215-60-15 tires. I would like to go to a 16" wheel and 50 series tires.

I think the car would look good with the wheels currently used on the 2008 V6 Mustangs. I know that vendors offer spacer kits to use the 17" late model wheels on early Mustangs. Would the same spacer be used? Has anybody out there in the Mustang nation done this swap?

Yes you have to use the spacer since the back spacing is different on the newer cars.

The 05 to 08 have different back spacing than the 94-04 Mustangs, I *think* it's 1/2 inch difference, which would mean a 1.5 inch adapter instead of 1 inch.

I'd recommend against using any wheel where an adapter is needed. IMO adapters are dangerous and not worth it. They put undue stress on lugs and constantly come loose. If the wheels won't fit get an aftermarket wheel that is similar, but I wouldn't use adapters.

Preacher is 100% correct.

Adaptors and spacers can be an absolute nightmare! I wouldn't want to be cruising along at 60 mph and get a little shake a shimmy and a thump and see one of my rear wheels pass me doing 70 mph as I grind to a halt or go off the road. It's NOT worth it. Look around and find something that looks like it you will be much safer. And if you can find it be patient someone will decide there is a market for it and will get it manufactured.

Good Luck!

The lug nuts holding the adapter on are no more likely to come loose than the lug nuts you're already using on your wheels. They've been in use for years.

I've made the mistake of using them in the past...won't ever again, they are dangerous. I've snapped lugs and had lugnuts back off using them, it's not worth the risk.

I had that happen with regular wheels, no adapter. The lugs weren't tightened down enough. That's the key either way, torque them to specs. They won't back off when torqued down correctly. The only problem is with the adapter it's hard to torque it down correctly. With the regular lugs you can snug them up and then lower the car, then with the tire touching the ground torque the lugs the rest of the way. With the adapter you've gotta use an air gun and have it set to the highest torque setting to be sure.

Adapter are not a problem, when used correctly. Also, make sure you use locktite as an extra precaution.

To answer your question. Yes they should fit. I put a set of '06 GT 5 spoke wheels on my '65. I did have to use a spacer.
